35 Lessons In 35 Years

Chapter 35.

A brand new page, in a brand new chapter. I can’t say that I’m happy to see 34 end; she was good to me – as was 33. In all honesty, so far the thirties are turning out to be my favourite. Not because they’ve necessarily been the easiest, but they have left me so incredibly proud of the life I’ve created for myself and the person I have grown into.

You don’t live the years of your life without learning along the way – and I don’t just means the basics. Those hard life lessons; those deserve to be shared. So here are 35 lessons I’ve learned in the last 35 years.

  1. Do what makes you proud, not what others say is right.
  2. What other people think of you, is none of your business.
  3. When in doubt . . . chocolate.
  4. Create a life you love and live it with reckless abandon. You only get one – don’t waste it.
  5. Not making a choice, is a choice.
  6. Carbs are not evil – neither is caffeine.
  7. Nothing is more important than your health.
  8. Independence can equal survival.
  9. Your happiness is your responsibility.
  10. Pizza deserves to be its own food group.
  11. Education is never wasted.
  12. Everything is easier said than done.
  13. When other people judge you, they are showing you their own insecurities – don’t let them become yours.
  14. Not everyone will like you and that’s okay.
  15. You will never be too old for video games.
  16. No one owes you anything. Ever.
  17. How you treat people says everything about your character.
  18. You don’t have to choose between loving your body and wanting to be healthy.
  19. You never have a right to judge someone. Never ever.
  20. Stop apologizing for who you are. Like right now.
  21. Potato chips aren’t healthy, but they’re still delicious.
  22. If someone issues an ultimatum; consider the ultimatum.
  23. Let every selfie be a ‘shameless selfie’ – you have nothing to be ashamed of! Rock that camera, Love!
  24. It’s easier to criticize than it is to educate.
  25. You don’t need to agree with someone to support them.
  26. You never know it’s the last time, until it’s already over.
  27. Tacos are a perfect choice any day – not just Tuesday.
  28. Your mental health is more important than your work ethic.
  29. Exercise means moving your body – do something you enjoy.
  30. Don’t be afraid of ‘rock bottom’. It teaches you more than the top ever could.
  31. Fight for your dreams with every ounce of energy you have – then find more and keep fighting.
  32. You may think you have time, but it’s never guaranteed.
  33. Tell your story. Your truth, is your truth.
  34. Always know your priorities and act accordingly.
  35. Write your own story, don’t let anyone else write it for you.
