Top Ten Christmas Movie Must Sees

When I first met Vic; I’m sure he thought I was crazy.  It would be the middle of July, blazing hot outside and I would be popping a Christmas movie in the dvd player.

“Seriously Tonya?”

From a girl who has a larger collection of Christmas movies, than any other genre (you know they’re totally in a class of their own!) and from one Christmas fanatic to another – here are my favorite top ten must sees . . .

#10 Miracle on 34th Street (1947)

I’m a sucker for the original, not saying the 1994 version isn’t a great one, it is.  There’s just something to be said about a great black and white original movie.  Growing up, this was one of my favorite movies – ever.  Teaching children and adults alike, just how important it is to believe; in love; in life.

If you can’t believe, if you can’t accept anything on faith, then you’re doomed for a life dominated by doubt.”

Isn’t that the truth!

#9 Paper Angels

Not many people have heard of this one, it originally aired on tv, but is available on dvd as well now.  It stars Matthew Settle (Gossip Girls) and Josie Bissett (Melrose Place) – among others.  A story of an abused woman who leaves her abusive alcoholic husband, with her two children in tow.  Their story unfolds in a heart warming story, crossing over into the story of two individuals about to become parents.

Grab a tissue and experience a story of what Christmas is really about!

#8 Rudolph

Come on, let the inner child and enjoy Rudolph and Hermey in their Christmas adventure – and let it be the 1964 edition!

“Goodbye, Hermey.  Whatever a dentist is, I hope someday you’ll be the greatest.”

#7 A Charlie Brown Christmas

It’s freakin Charlie Brown – need I say more?!

#6 Home Alone 2

I know there’s a half dozen of these movies and although I own the first 4, they lost their touch after Macaulay Culkin.  Regardless of how many times I have seen this movie – countless, countless times – I still get sucked in and crack up laughing.  It’s a classic family movie and absolutely perfect way to lighten a day!

I’m gonna give you to the count of three to get your lousy, lyin’, low-down, four flushing carcass OUT my door!

#5 National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation

If you haven’t seen this movie, you’ve been deprived of – well everything.  I limit my watching of this movie because it’s Vic’s number one favorite holiday movie and at his request, I wait until he asks to see it.  Given that he caved on my year round holiday movie requests, I figure I owed him that.  In all seriousness – if you haven’t seen this, do yourself the biggest favor this Christmas and get this movie – trust me, you’ll want to watch the Griswold’s craziness at least every holiday season (multiple times!).  They allow us all to breathe a little easier when we try to be the Pinterest worthy family!

“Where do you think you’re going? Nobody’s leaving. Nobody’s walking out on this fun, old-fashioned family Christmas. No, no. We’re all in this together. This is a full-blown, four-alarm holiday emergency here. We’re gonna press on, and we’re gonna have the hap, hap, happiest Christmas since Bing Crosby tap-danced with Danny fucking Kaye. And when Santa squeezes his fat white ass down that chimney tonight, he’s gonna find the jolliest bunch of assholes this side of the nuthouse!”

#4 Fred Claus

This is a funny, lighthearted holiday film about Santa’s outcast brother.  To be honest, I’m not too sure why this is a favourite of mine; I’m not all that much a fan of Vince Vaughn, but Fred sucked me in with one particular line . . .

“Nick, there’s been one thing that’s been eating at me since I’ve been here. That Naughty-Nice List that you got? There’s no naughty kids, Nick. They’re all good kids. But some of them are scared. And some of them don’t feel listened to. Some of them had some pretty tough breaks too. But every kid deserves a present on Christmas.”

#3 Christmas With The Kranks

I despised Tim Allan in Home Improvement.  He honestly drove me c.r.a.z.y!  But being the little star struck child I was, sucked up every episode for JTT *childhood swoon*.  I will give him credit – he does Christmas well.  In this film, he plays a husband to Jamie Lee Curtis and together tackle the reaction of an entire neighborhood of Christmas fanatics as they decide to skip Christmas.  Guaranteed to bring out the chuckles!

#2 A Chipmunk Christmas

By far my favorite childhood movie.  Probably because I grew up when you simply didn’t say Alvin, Simon, Theodore, without singing it – which I totally just did!  It is a must see for kids and adults alike.  A joyful movie, with old school childhood favorites performing a story of the true meaning of Christmas.

#1 Christmas Angel

By FAR my favorite holiday film EVER.  I cry every.single.time!  No joke.  It isn’t you’re standard ol chick flick.  It is a movie that will have you melting.  Like seriously, a big puddle of mush.  I’m not even going to give the story line to you – not even a peek.  You NEED to watch this movie.  You need to FEEL this movie.

If I were to have three wishes – the first would be to be able to carry out the role in this movie.  Honest.
